Hello. I am hoping that someone here can Answer a couple questions I have regarding the SONY VAIO VGP-XL1B 200 Disc CD-R-DVD Player-Recorder I have. I have the SONY VAIO VGP-XL1B 200 Disc CD-R-DVD Player-Recorder which I purchased from a eBay Seller 3 years ago which works Great with my Custom-Built Windows 7 Ultimate 64(bit)Computer, so I decided to open it up and do a Long Overdo Cleaning (which was probably Never done),and Blow-Out the Built Up Dust Inside it, and when I removed the Bottom Metal Plate so that I could Blow Any/All Dust out of it, and when I looked into the space down there, I found 3 little Circuit Boards, and on 1 of them there is a Fuse which I had No Idea was there, and on another Small Circuit Board I found a Small Black Plastic Box which has a Pop-Off Lid or Cover with a Small 3.7v Battery which is about 1/2 the Length of a AA Battery inside it. ;~0 I Downloaded the Manual for the SONY VAIO VGP-XL1B 200 Disc CD-R-DVD Player-Recorder and I am looking through it Very Carefully looking for Anything regarding Both of these items, but I have NOT seen Anything mentioning them in the Manual yet which is Confusing to me here??? Has Anyone here Seen or heard of what I am referring too regarding the 3 Small Circuit Boards, and the Fuse and 3.7v Battery Hidden Away at the Bottom of the SONY VAIO VGP-XL1B 200 Disc CD-R-DVD Player-Recorder ;~0 I have been looking online using Google, but I have Not seen or read Anything yet regarding these 2 items yet which are " Well Hidden " at the Bottom of this, and I Suspect Inside Every Other SONY VAIO VGP-XL1B 200 Disc CD-R-DVD Player-Recorder. ;~0 To Whoever reads this letter from me, kindly look into this matter and write me back and my E-Dress here: mrevansisnumber1@gmail.com and let me know what, if Anything you learn about this because I suspect that the little 3.7v Battery is most likely the " Original " Battery, which means that it is NOW 14 years old, which means that it should probably Need Replacing, wherein I suspect that it is some kind of Memory or CMOS Battery for this SONY Unit, but I don't know, and I will Not Know until I find out what it is, and why it is there, and what it is there for ;~0 I would really appreciated some HELP here folks. Thanks much. Mr. Evans in Clovis CA., 93611.

Hi boosteddetroit34, You need to be a junior member or higher to access the downloads section. I sent mrevans1 the file in a PM as he is not a Junior Member or above but he hasn't replied with any feedback, so I assume it solved his query. Welcome to the forum

Hello again Oliver.
I wanted to tell you that I was able to Buy a Sony VAIO Digital Living System HTPC VGX-XL2 Computer from a eBay Seller last week, and it is on it's way to my apartment here in Central California from the East Coast, and it is supposed to be arriving here next Thursday,February 19th 2015,and I am looking forward to receiving it here.;~)
I Paid under $300.00 for it, and according to the eBay Seller it is in Great Working Condition.
I Sure Hope So.;~0
The eBay Pictures of it appear to show it in Great Physical Condition,(that's if those pictures are of the Sony Unit I Purchased from the eBay Seller?)
It Did Not Come with the Mated Wireless keyboard,Nor the Remote Control, but I already have a Second Matching Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard with a Touchpad in it,and a Wireless Remote with the Receiver which Should Work with it.
The eBay Seller did Not elude to what is inside it,but only to say that they had Tested It,and that it was in Great Working Shape, so that doesn't much bother me,because I may Gut It and Put a Socket 775 MB inside it and Ad Win 7 in it if it isn't working because I wanted the Cool Aluminum Case due to it's "Coolness factor",and I already have the Matching Sony VGP-XL1B Unit here which I inquired about here regarding the Hidden Battery and Fuse at the Bottom of it.
If you don't mind Oliver,Kindly write me back either here at this Forum,or at my E-mail Address and let me know your thoughts on the 2 Hidden Circuit Boards, and the Hidden Battery Compartment and the Inline Fuse at the Bottom of the Sony VGP-XL1B.
Thanks again Oliver.
James Evans in Central California.

Hello Oliver Stones.
This Manual is what I have been searching for. ;~)
I have Searched Online for Over 2 years for a Manual like this 1, but I did not know that it even existed, and I Only found the Ones which are available for Download, but NOT this 1. ;~0
Is this Disassembly & Assembly Manual a " Special " Version, or was it part of the Original or OEM Manuals which originally came with the Complete Sony VAIO Digital Living System HTPC VGX-XL2 Computer System Package ?
This is the Manual I have been searching for. ;~)
Are there " Any " More Manuals or Documents for this SONY System which I do Not know of or about ?
I Downloaded All of the Paperwork and Manuals from Sony's website, but I Never Saw this Disassembly & Assembly Manual, Nor did I know of it's existence until you sent it to me.
Thank you so much Oliver. ;~)
I will try and leave you my Positive Feedback at this Website.
Cheers. ;~)

Hello again Oliver Stones, and Everyone Else here at this Website. ;~)
I had Found this Website while doing a More and Complete Search Online for Anything relating to my SONY VGP-XL1B DVD-CR+=R Unit which I had Purchased from a eBay Seller 2 + years ago, wherein I found 2 Secret To Me Circuit Boards, Wire Bundles and Fuses and a Battery Compartment Hidden at the Bottom of this SONY Unit while Blowing Out Dust and Dead Spiders inside the Bottom of the Unit.
I had already Downloaded Every SONY Manual and Any/All Related Paperwork for this SONY Unit, but I Could Never Find Anything Online which showed the Disassembly & Reassembly of it Online Anywhere. ;~0
Thanks to Wonderful People Like Oliver Stones, I am Now Hooked on this Website, and I will Definitely be Coming Back Again, and again, Etc.. ;~)
Now that I have Purchased a SONY VAIO Digital Living System HTPC VGX-XL2 from a eBay Seller last week, which is due to arrive here next Thursday, I will be asking A Lot More Questions here at this Forum, and hopefully some of you Fine SONY VAIO Digital Living System HTPC VGX-XL1, 2 and 3 Owners will hopefully Help Me Out with my Questions, and with Tips on which part or whatever I may Need or want to Repair or Upgrade my SONY VAIO Digital Living System HTPC VGX-XL2 .

Well, I've now read through this thread, and the suspense is killing me. What about the battery & fuse ?
I saw the link to the manual but I'm not a Jr yet. I'd just like to know whats the battery and fuse all about out of curiosity at this point.
10minutes later:
Just attained my Jr rating !
Looked at the manual and saw what appeared to be a button battery in one of the manual's pics (saw the in-line fuse in a pic as well), but I did not notice any mention of the battery or the need for replacement in the text ?

I'm almost positive the battery is there to supply the onboard memory with power. If you were to load it up with discs and remove the battery and unplug the unit for a length of time, it would then not know that there are discs in the machine when power is restored. You could replace it if you feel you must, but unless it's acting up I wouldn't bother. Just replacing the battery would cause the unit to forget all of your discs anyway, so I would wait until you have to do other maintainace before replacing the battery as well.
These batteries usually have a shelf life of around 10 years minimum, but they should last much longer since they are being cycled.

Yet another great and useful piece of info I've now gleaned from this site.
My VGP-XL1B's have been sitting (with discs in them) unplugged for quite a while. I suppose the battery may or may not have a charge left on it, but at least now I know if they are acting a little squirrelly when I finally resurrect them, the battery (not the software) maybe the culprit. Good to know - thanks !

I am having belt problems with mine. I went up in the attic for awhile and the heat destroyed all the belts. Who knows about the battery. I should probably replace it too.

I got one today from a thrift store today and I opened it up and one of the little rubber bands was broken on the DVD motor does anyone know where to get decent rubber bands that fit? I'd love to try it out on my VGX-XL2.
