i all, I am relocating my VAIO due to a house move and I have picked up a very nice TV cabinet. The cabinet has a mesh back to help keep electrical devices cool, so I am not worried about the back, the front is fine too, but I only have about 7mm gap on each side of the VAIO Once I finish setting it up I'll monitor the temperatures, but does anyone foresee any big issue with this? I know the VAIO draws air in from the side vents. Here is a picture... Hopefully it will be ok, I'll keep a close eye on the temps for the next few weeks. Cheers, Oliver

Hi Oliver,
I wouldn't worry too much, there should be enough space to draw air in from the sides and you have no restrictions on the front. I notice there is a small front fan on the VGX-XL to help draw air in from the front as well.
Really nice cabinet.. ..what TV have you got on there, looks nice!
PS congratulations on the house move.

You wont have any problems. There is more than enough ventilation from the front and bottom to keep it well within working temps.

Thanks everyone for reassuring me. The cabinet I 'won' on eBay as a set, it had been expensive, I liked it as its burr walnut and black which we are using as a theme for our 1920s house. It came with a coffee table that opens up into wine storage, a drinks cabinet with mirror to pour drinks on and a few other pieces. Its the kind of furniture you'd expect to find on Family Guy in Quagmire's house We got a new TV as well, a lg smart 55" 3D LED. Its amazing, makes my 6(ish) old lg 47" LCD look terrible (now relocated in my sons' bedroom). We are experiencing some nice weather here at the mo, and my system temps are fine. My CPU temps are all between 36°c and 44° Cheers again, Oliver Sent from my phone, using Tapatalk

The VAIO moved between posts. Looks even snugger in that one. I suspect your whole interior theme is being dictated by the cabinet which was the perfect size to house your VAIO.

Looks nice, I really like the burr walnut and the TV really matches the stlye of the VGX-XL. I have to admit that after my recent VGX-XL upgrades I also went out and brought a shiny new smart TV to complement it: It is a Sony Bravia W6 42"; what really persuaded me to buy this model was the very low input lag (one of the lowest ever recorded, 14.6 ms), great for media and gaming. It also seemed to be winning a lot of awards for best non-3D smart TV at the start of the year. The timing of my purchase was a bit ironic really as the TV pretty much does what the VGX-XL can do in regards to recording, media playback, networking etc!

Very nice, I picked between Sony and LG as I prefer passive 3d rather than active. I have a LG G2 phone so that swung it for me, stuff like viewing my phone on TV and using the phones to control the television when I cant find the remote should work seamlessly but I've not tested it yet. I have tested 3D played via my VAIO and it is amazing I have Satellite and a TV Ariel and my TV has inputs for both and the Sat input displays HD channels which is great. I now want to try connecting a hard drive to see how the recording works. I guess Smart TVs are slowly eliminating the need for media centres, but I like the ability to download from any website I choose and organise my content with Media Browser. Nostalgia too, I love the VAIO machines too much to give up on Media Centres just yet IT Troll: The whole house is themed around the VAIO ;D Sent from my phone, using Tapatalk

Totally agree re the VAIO's I hope I can keep the VGX-XL under my TV for several years to come.. ..indeed, if needs be in the future I will just replace the internals and keep the case

I know that my vaio will not be going anywhere for as long as I can keep stuffing off the shelf parts in it.

Totally agree re the VAIO's I hope I can keep the VGX-XL under my TV for several years to come.. ..indeed, if needs be in the future I will just replace the internals and keep the case +1, I thought about that from 2 years (mini-ITX motherboard, Core i3s,...) but now that we can put a Core 2 Quad inside VGX-XL, this idea will stay in my mind for the future... :-) Just bought also a new Sony LCD KDL-50W656 with a mega promotion! I don't need 3D because I can see it only in Cinema so it was a perfect TV for me. And with my Xperia Z smartphone and tablet I can miroring the displays on the TV, just GREAT! The option that is missing on my VAIO Media Center => Skype and Youtube with remote, no keyboard needing! glad
