For those of you who may be interested there are a lot (6 in total I think) of VGX-XL's up for sale on eBay at the moment.. ..however, they are not cheap!

Stop watching those eBay auctions. You've got enough!

The VGX-XL range seems to vary hugely in price, if you can wait you can usually find a real bargain. Thanks for posting on here, it's good that we promote these machines, the more that remain in circulation the better I agree with ITTroll, leave those VAIO's alone Woody, let someone else have one

What is the best system to buy? (Best Value I mean?)

What is the best system to buy? (Best Value I mean?) I would just have a good look around, but I managed to get a working XL201 for c. £30 on eBay! I would avoid the XL1's, XL2's or XL100's as they have the earlier 'Talas' motherboards and can only support the slower Pentium D processors. If you can get a XL201,202,3,301 or 302 I would go for them.. ..don't worry too much about the difference between the 200's and the 300's as they are essentially the same and can be upgraded in the same way. The main differences were that 202's and 302's had a Blu-ray re-writer instead of a DVD on the 201's and 301's (as well as faster processors). The 300 series added an extra TV tuner over the 200's, so you can watch one channel, whilst recording another. They also shipped with faster processors. Hope this helps.

I would just have a good look around, but I managed to get a working XL201 for c. £30 on eBay! That was a very lucky break though. If I remember correctly it was sold as "for parts / not working". Ones that are known to be in working order go for quite a bit more. It is worth mentioning that the tuners on all these are rather old now (SD Freeview only) and so you may need to factor in the cost of replacing these. The 300s were Vista whilst the 200s were XP. So again you probably want to upgrade the O/S.

True, this was sold to me as for parts/not working.. ..but from experience, that particular description does not mean a lot, it depends what else is written in the sellers description.. ..some say this even when the HDD has failed, for example.. ..a cheap and easy fix. But you are correct, in the main VGX-XL's tend to sell for £100 to £150 on eBay fully working, with some of the XL300's going for £200+ At the moment there is nothing much on ebay.co.uk.

I'll have to keep my eyes open. I've got an XL1a that I want to upgrade from.

Nowadays it can be found at peanuts prices. I just bought a vgx-xl302 from flea market at about 30$. It has no hdd but I think it's working. I get image on tv but only with component cable , not from hdmi. Hopefully after installing windows all will be ok, or not? I look forward to see, may be tomorrow.

I'm sure you'll get it working, you might need to replace a few parts but parts are reasonably cheap and these are great little systems
