I used to work for Sony (I got a brand new VGX-XL2a system with *2* VGP-XL1B boxes for $600 right when the XL3s came out), and thought you guys might like the internal service manuals. They are both slightly over the attachment limit, but I would be happy to forward them to the admins here for posting on the site.
If this is against forum policy, my apologies.

Many thanks majmattmason The manuals really are much better than I was expecting. Great quality pictures and part numbers for everything; including the screws!

Thanks majmattmason,
These are really great, I had offered to do a pictorial guide to the disassembly of the VGX-XL's for Oliver, but have still not had time to do it.. ..this saves me the job!
Best wishes, Woody

I noticed that the user's guide (that originally came with the systems) doesn't seem to be available here. Not that anyone here really NEEDS it, but some of you may never have actually seen it? Would you like me to send that to you, too?

I think they are still available on the Sony site. However I might be worth having a mirror of them and all the drivers for that matter, for the day they do disappear.

When I first started VGX-XL a top member of a vgx-xl thread on AVSforums agreed to help me with content, he wrote some great guides and together the site started to grow. We started collecting the full set of recovery discs and hosting them personally on online storage sites with links on VGX-XLpedia, unfortunately we went separate ways and the recovery disk links broke, this was almost a year ago and only 1 member has ever asked for a recovery disk since despite the broken links still remaining. I still have recovery disks for the XL201 and XL301, plus I found my old XL100 recovery disk, but as people haven't asked for them I have bothered to upload to my google drive account. Uploading the 5ish GB files took about 4hours and that's just for 1 model and they are (I thank) 5 European and 3 USA models. Downloading all the drivers for all machines to mirror them is quite a task and I'm not sure there will be enough requests for the drivers to justify it. That's said, it would be nice to have mirror links. If anyone wishes to host any drivers I'm very happy to share the links through the website and forum. I actually downloaded the PDF for the user guide today, but as its readily available I didn't bother adding it, its only a small file so I'll probably get it uploaded at some point If I do set up another download section, I could do it through the forum and only allow members with X number of posts download privileges to encourage activity, so this could be an option if I get very bored lol. When I started VGX-Xlpedia I was just out of hospital on a lot of drugs including morphine, I was unable to walk further than a few steps (with crutches) so I had loads of spare time for 6 months, I'm now back working full time and have a hectic family life I just can't find as much time.

Are the service manuals still available? The link does not seem to work anymore.
