Dear all,
My boyfriend and I are desperately trying to give my vaio vgx xl-100 a new burst of life and bring it as up-to-date as we can. We understand its retro now, but we really want to still use it, hopefully even to game with each other. We hate the idea of throwing it away, we love it's design and it's a piece of history.
Does anyone have any advice or recommendations on how to go about this? Should we update the cpu, the hard drive and of course the graphics card? Install Windows 10?
Any advice or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks xx

most of the vgx xl100 is 32 bit so win 8.1 is as far as it goes... i think... i did this build quite recently and it works great.. ram from amazon (1gb 533mhz X4) CPU from ebay pentium D 945 (05A 95 watt specific) and Nvidia 710 3D ready,

I had Wins10 32bit on my modded XL301 and it worked fine, except for the eject button. Some VGX-XL owners prefer Wins7/8.1 over Wins10 because wins10 stopped supporting Windows Media Centre, but that is the only reason.
Have a read through the forum to get ideas about upgrades. In the BIOS mod section you'll find loads of information about the maximum supported CPUs.
Good luck with your upgrading, please keep us informed
Regards,
Oliver
