I picked up a used vaio disc changer, and I want to hook it up to my dell WMC 7 PC but I'm not exactly sure how. Before I start I should say that I did have the disc changer working at one time, and I had loaded the changer with disc, and WMC was in the process of scanning the changer's contents. At this point, I walked away from the changer, and the PC went to sleep. When I came back to the changer I noticed that there were some discs that were labeled unavailable so I tried running the disc index again with no luck. At this point, I unloaded the changer thinking I would just start over but I could not get the changer to unload the disc that was loaded into the drive. After working with the changer for a while, I removed the cover, and manually took out the disc thinking it had just been jammed in there.
At no point have I had trouble playing discs loaded into the changer and even the one disc that would not eject played successfully. Between all of this toying around with the PC, I'm sure I unplugged the firewire cable with either the changer, or the PC, or both turned on. I'm not sure if this can damage the unit but I thought I would add that just in case. As it stands now, there is nothing in the changer but when I add discs, the corousel will not spin, and WMC fails to read the contents of the changer. The only command that the changer responds to is eject from within the manage discs section of WMC.
How can I get this changer working in WMC? Is there some way I have to reset the changer or some software I have to install? Thanks.

It seems like forever since the last time I've worked on one of these but I'll give it a go.
The first thing I would do is make sure the changer is completely empty. Then disconnect the 1934a cable and then uninstall the drivers from within the device manager. Reconnect the changer and let windows reinstall the drivers. After the drivers have reinstalled, double tap the eject button on the changer.
If the above doesn't fix the problem, I do believe one of the boards has a battery to store memory. you could try and removing the battery and unplugging the changer for a while so that the changer resets it's self.

I tried to it out, and still no luck. What I haven't done yet is try to pop that battery out of the changer. Do you know of any instructions for doing this or any easy way to accomplish it?

I did a fresh OS install on the Win 7 machine, and I still get the same behavior. Is it possible the firewire board is fried?
