Audio still nothing on HDMI. Maybe You give me Your drivers nvidia and audio? Meybe I must install any HDMI AUDIO drivers or something??? From memory, the audio drivers that get installed automatically with Windows work fine. Once you install your Nvidia graphics drivers you should get HDMI audio. What TV are you connecting to? Do you have another you can test with?

I have the XL201 ones in long term storage. If you still need them when I break my stuff out in 3-6 months, I'll get them uploaded. I have now been reunited with my discs and will work on making them available this week.

Hi Anthony,
Been searching the web to locate recovery disks for the XL100 and found this forum. What an excellent site !
Any chance of sending me the link for the XL100 recovery disks. My main hard disk has crashed and machine will now not now boot. Bought it when released and cannot find my recovery disks as yet. As a newbie to this forum, I don't have access to the members section just yet.
Would be much appreciated. Email address is Marinoff at Hotmail dot com
Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve,
I on my phone at the most, but will email you the link as soon as I get back home, failing that you only need 4 posts to gain access to the downloads section. [EDIT] I've just checked and found we only have 1 of the 2 needed discs for the XL100, a member donated them but I was only able to download 1 disc the other kept crashing. Maybe someone here can upload the discs for you and the community?
Win7 is generally the preferred and recommended OS on these systems, but OS upgrade do require some tweaking to get up and running properly

Hi AussieSteve, Alternatively, if you still have the original hard drive in your machine you can try to boot from your hidden recovery partition (this will only work if the HDD has not completely crashed/failed). This will check and re-format your drive and then re-install Windows back to factory settings. Just press F10 when the machine is booting and it will give you options to do the above as well as allowing you to re-install the original application software. Detailed instructions for the recovery options are contained in www.docs.sony.com/Release/VGNT300series_Recoveryguide.pdf (see page 26) When re-installed you can then make your recovery disks from within Windows using the VAIO recovery utility. As Oliver mentions, it would be better to take this opportunity to move away from the originally installed version of Windows (XP ?) and move over to a clean/fresh install of Windows 7, which not only runs much better on the VGX-XL's but is also still supported by Microsoft. Hope this helps

Guys,
Sorry for the slow response but I have been on holiday in Asia. Your advice is appreciated but my primary hard disk crashed and the drive could not be read including the hidden partition. I hear all the recommendations to do a fresh Win 7 install but there are some Sony Applications I would like to reinstall. I also already have Vista and Win 7 programme disks but these are upgrade disks only and I don't really want to go out and buy another Win 7 license. I will stick with Win 7 32bit so my soundcard still works but given that the dual tuners are analogue, which has been turned off here I will need to buy a new dual DVB-T card. Based upon stuff I have read here, I will also look to buy a new graphics card.
Anthony, if you find the time, please send the link to me to download the original Recovery ISO files.
Cheers,
Steve

I found my official VGX-XL100 recovery disks that I received direct from Sony, Sony was going to charge me around (£30 from memory) for the disks delivered, however because I was just out of warranty they sent them free. Here they are in all their glory... Download from here... (you need to be a signed in member with at least 4 posts) forum.vgx-xl.com/thread/245/sony-xl100-official-recovery-disksHope they come in useful, Oliver

Hi, We are looking for recovery disks to add to our downloads section. We currently have Disks for the VGX-XL100, VGX-XL2, VGX-XL201, VGX-XL301 & VGX-XL302. Maybe you can help us with finding the the other 4 pairs of disks VGX-XL1, VGX-XL202, VGX-XL3? Anyone who can help, please upload the Disks to a online storage site, like Dropbox, Google Drive or similar and provide me, Oliver with the links, once verified I will add the recovery disks to the list. The main reason to do this is to help your fellow VGX-XL enthusiasts, but I will promote any member providing such material with V.I.P status and credit will be given. HI,
Can I use your recovery discs, if I install Windows 7 Upgrade version. Without Vista instaled I cannot put upgrade proguct key. But my Vista product key is on my recoverry discs, or no! I lost them. What is the solution in this case

Hi televizor and welcome to the forum,
The discs are made available for all Junior members and above to use (4 posts+) There is no key with the disks, you have to use your own key that should be on the back of your VGX-XL, if not you would need to buy a key from Microsoft.
If you want Windows 7, it is often recommended that you do a clean Win7 install due to issues discovered when upgrading.
Are you asking if you can upgrade to Wins7 after a clean install but with only the upgrade key? If so I don't know, but I'd guess not.
Please let us know which VGX-XL you have and your system specs to help us give the best advice. Updating you profile is probably the best way to do this

Many Thanks for the link, Derek!
Very useful method 2! I activate the Windows 7! I have a sicker on the back of the mashine. No need in this case.

Hi Oliver, thanks for the welcome!
I have a spare hdd that i was intending to use initially so I don't mess up the current vista install (which seems spybot & malware infected).
I have noticed that in system information its telling me that its a x64 architecture not x86 so will 64bit version of windows be beneficial? Any known driver conflicts?

Try this 1st Norton™ Bootable Recovery Tool security.symantec.com/nbrt/nbrt.aspx?lcid=1033How to use Norton Bootable Recovery Tool support.norton.com/sp/en/us/home/current/solutions/v72380755_EndUserProfile_en_usThe Bootable Recovery Tool says you need your Symantec install serial no, which you may have on the vista intall. So write that down if you have. But i just used it from booting, not from os and it didn't ask for it it found a couple of infections I.E. non removeable file, turned out to be an infected file which it removed. Install Mr Big Bios update V1.2 for your Machine (Very easy to do) forum.vgx-xl.com/thread/304/big-bios-update-project-releasedThen you could Partition your HDD with Paragon Partition Manager™ 14 Free www.paragon-software.com/home/pm-express/And install Win 8.1 on the new partition. you would then be able to dual boot Vista and Win 8.1 Don't Know much about 8 but i've just done same ting with XP and Win 7 All seems ok Been doing a lot of research and it seems 64bit is your best bet (Memory over 4GB thing) + other stuff Derek Edit: If you do Partitions choose Primary Partitions for Type. I let the Win 7 install CD do mine and it made it a logical Partition, which i think is somehow connected to 1st partition if you want to delete or format the 1st one at a later date i think Primary is a better option. P.S.not a computer wizard, it's just what i'm doing with my XL-201 at the moment (had it for 2 weeks) Derek
